  1. Where do you cook?

Some chefs will cook in your home, meaning you let them in or provide a key so they can have access to your kitchen for a few hours each week. They’ll either have you stock up on some equipment or bring their own. After the cook session, they’ll store your food and clean your kitchen.

Other services, like The Austin Artisan, cook out of a certified commercial kitchen. Therefore, we don’t need to take up space in your home while you’re trying to get the kids off to school or check your emails. When your meals are done, we deliver them right to your refrigerator, labeled and ready to reheat and eat!

  1. Are the menus customized?

To me, the purpose of having a Personal Chef is that you have customized menus prepared just for you and your family—taking your likes, dislikes and dietary concerns into account. Here, we ask all of our clients to fill out a detailed Food Questionnaire, so we’re sure to cook the meals you’re craving.

It’s easy to get swayed by services that offer really low price points, but they usually come at a cost. For example, the chef might create a standard menu and cook in batches. In other words, you don’t have a say in the meals that are provided to you.

  1. What type of food do you cook?

Every chef has a preferred style of cooking. I know chefs that specialize in Italian cuisine and others that are strictly vegetarian. Some chefs will help you reach weight loss goals and others believe in a farm-to-table approach.
